Raised Eyebrows/Furrowed Foreheads:
Figure with Globe
by John Baldessari

ABOUT THE PRINT

Entitled Raised Eyebrows/Furrowed Foreheads: Figure with Globe, and printed at GEMINI G.E.L., the edition was commissioned by AFTAM in 2009 in support of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and is part of the same series exhibited in 2009 to great acclaim at Marian Goodman Gallery.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

For over five decades, John Baldessari has been at the fore of aesthetic innovation. Through witty images and often-playful combinations and juxtapositions, he has experimented with translation, visual literacy, and the rhetoric of meaning.

Interest in John Baldessari's work remains high; the demand for his multiples was observed at the recent Editions auction on June 8, 2010 at Phillips de Pury & Company, and in October 2009, a retrospective exhibition of his work opened at the Tate Modern, London, before traveling to MACBA, Barcelona; LACMA, Los Angeles; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, where it will be on view from October 20, 2010 through January 9, 2011.

ABOUT THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF THE TEL AVIV MUSEUM OF ART

The American Friends of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (AFTAM) is a non-profit organization founded in 1974 to raise funds for the Museum and to seek notable works of art for its collections. AFTAM hosts a year-round calendar of events, including gallery visits, art lectures, private tours of art collections, and an annual Gala. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is Israel's leading museum of modern art and home to the largest collections of Israeli art in the world. Situated on a vast cultural complex, the museum serves as a meeting place for all the arts - painting, sculpture, photography, video art, architecture, music, cinema, and dance.
